Increased Engine Oil Longevity in Renewable Energy Generating Plant

The challenge

A landfill gas engine generating plant required frequent engine oil changes to maintain reliable operation. Delta-Xero conducted long-term, real-world testing with Enovert to assess how far engine oil life could be extended without compromising lubrication, cooling, protection, or cleanliness. Independent laboratory analysis was used to verify oil condition over time.

Results confirmed a 7.2× extension in oil life, reducing oil changes from approximately 48 per year to just 7 in an engine requiring around 500 litres per oil change.

Customer savings & impact

Verified results delivered clear operational and environmental benefits:

  • 20,500 litres/year reduction in new oil consumption

  • 20,500 litres/year reduction in oil disposal

  • 41 fewer oil changes per year, significantly reducing labour and plant downtime

  • ~45,100 kg CO₂ reduction per year, lowering the site’s carbon footprint

The full case study explains how oil condition was preserved, whichat lab data confirmed oil health, and what this means for long-term gas engine operation

The Additive Myth Debunked

A long-term independent study was carried out by POLARIS Laboratories Europe to assess whether installing Delta-Xero filtration on a landfill gas engine would negatively affect lubricant condition, additive performance, or expected oil drain intervals.

Significant Financial Savings for Biffa

A Godswill baler, valued at approximately £500,000 and used for processing aluminium and cardboard, suffered five major breakdowns within just six months of installation. Despite being under warranty, the machine experienced two pump failures and three valve failures, resulting in £15,000 in direct repair costs and significant production downtime. Specialist oil analysis revealed that the heavily polluted waste-processing environment was introducing extreme levels of particulate and varnish-like products that conventional maintenance could not identify or remove.
