Delta Xero can filter all types of oil, to remove Varnish, Water and Particulate down to 0.1 Micron. However, did you know that we can also filter diesel? More importantly, why should you filter your diesel?

Diesel fuel has a minimum cleanliness standard of 18/16/13 (ISO 4406:2017) and meets this requirement at point of leaving the refinery. However, what happens when it leaves? Firstly, its pumped from a holding tank at the refinery into a truck for transportation. Do you notice how these trucks have the pipework for pumping stored loosely on the side and exposed to the elements? Cleanliness of the trucks tank aside, these pipes are open to water, grit and particulate which is often washed into the tank when the diesel is pumped from the truck.

Once on site, the fuel is transferred from the truck into your holding tank, along with the particulate and water which has collected in the pipework. The cleanliness of your tank also plays a factor here. Have you got water ingress? Condensation? Particulate from covers or access points?

The last step is usually to transfer the fuel from your holding tank, into your machinery. This can be delivered in a number of ways; another move with a truck, or dispensed by a pump. Either way, there is another avenue of contamination, as well as the sediment left in the tank of the actual machine. At this point, is Diesel still at its 18/16/13? The probable answer is no.

Diesel engines have come along and advanced in such a way that increase in fuel rail pressure, tighter clearances in pumps, seals and injectors means that contamination in fuel can have a greater wear effect on modern engines rather than the smoky old machines from yester-year.

By filtering the fuel, you start your machines engine with the best possible chance of longevity, with the cleanest fuel that can be provided. Clean fuel also has further benefits, reducing wear on injectors, pumps and seals. It can also reduce your emissions by offering a cleaner burn.
